Scott Flemming is the Technical Director of the NBA Academy India.  He serves as the Head Coach and Administrator for this stand alone academy for the top 24 high school boys in India. Almost 3 years ago he returned to India as the Senior Director of Basketball Operations. Flemming was overseeing all the grassroots projects for the NBA.  Prior to  this he spent 2 years as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Northwest Nazarene University, a NCAA Div. II school just outside of Boise, ID. In his 2nd year the team won 6 more conference games then the previous season. The building project was moving in a positive direction when Flemming turned the team over to his top assistant when the NBA opportunity was presented. Before NNU he was the Indian Men’s National Team Coach. In his first year the team won the South Asian Basketball Championship by defeating Afghanistan in the finals. The team finished 3 places higher at the Asian Basketball Championship than the most recent finish prior to his arrival. The Indian team won the Gold Medal in the Lusofonia Games in 2014 defeating Angola in the finals. This is the first Gold Medal in the history of the Indian National Team. In his second year the team captured the 2014 SABA Championship qualifying them for the prestigious FIBA Asia Cup. During the Asia Cup India beat China (Ranked 12th in the world) on their home court. It was the biggest win in the 75 year history of India basketball.

Prior to this assignment he was the top assistant for the Texas Legends, the NBA G-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. The Legends became only the 3rd D-League expansion team to qualify for the play-offs. He coached 5 former NBA first round draft picks. In his second year with the Legends he coached under Del Harris, former NBA Coach of the Year and NBA veteran of 35 years. He also served as the acting head coach in many of the games. Flemming also lead the player development work-outs in the off-season for the Legends. He not only worked with Legends players but other pros in the greater Dallas area. He was involved in evaluating prospective players for the Legends as well as the Mavericks in preparation for the draft. He served as the offensive coordinator and worked with the post players on Coach Harris’s staff. Flemming also did extensive scouting of opponents for the Legends.

Before his professional coaching he was the Men’s Head Coach and Athletic Director at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio. During his years with the Cougars, Flemming compiled an overall record of 397-226 (.637 winning percentage) – the most wins of any coach in the program’s 40-year history. His over-all collegiate coaching record is 475-315.

Over the last 15 seasons at MVNU the team compiled an impressive 328-156 mark. His teams earned eight berths in the NAIA National tournament during his tenure (1995, 1998-2000, 2006-2009). MVNU won three American Mideast Conference Tournament titles and earned the program’s first two regular-season conference titles. The team was also consistently ranked in the top 25 NAIA poll including being the unanimous No. 1 during the 1998-1999 season. The Cougars also won one National Christian College Athletic Association national title defeating NCAA Div. I Gardner Webb University (2002) and finished as the NCCAA national runner-up once (2004)

For his efforts in guiding MVNU, Flemming earned two National Coach of the Year awards (NAIA in 1998 and NCCAA in 2000).  He was also the Mid-Ohio Conference Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1998. Coach Flemming was inducted in the MVNU Wall of Fame in 2009. Flemming had 11 different players earn All-American honors during his tenure at MVNU including three different players on the All-American First Team. He saw 17 different players score 1,000 or more career points with five over 2,000 points.  He also had 19 different players earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors with a 3.5 or higher GPA.  In addition, four players moved on to play professionally overseas and one, Mike Wells,  coached for 15 years in the NBA.

After serving as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Wheaton College and then the University of South Alabama, an NCAA Division I school, Flemming got his first job as a head coach at Nyack College (NCAA Div. II).  They qualified for the NCCAA National Tournament in his third season finishing with a record of 20-13.
